Do you remember the 1980s? This is the decade of the yuppie, New Romantic music,
breakdancing and power dressing.
Music
The music varied as the '80s went on. It ranged from New Romantic, electro pop, rap,
hiphop and acid house. There were groups like ABC, Culture Club, Level 42, Bow Wow Wow, Bananarama and many others.
There were stars like Prince, Madonna and Whitney Houston.
Fashion
The fashion was also varied. It varied as the decade went on. In the early 1980s
the fashion was rather outrageous and different. Some boys put on make-up if they were new romantics. Power dressing
was all the rage then. Power dressing was linked to the yuppies in the '80s. Jumpsuits, legwarmers and leggings were worn
by girls and young ladies during the '80s
Most young
people had rather interesting hairstyles. Some men had mullets and some women had big hair.
TV/Film
There were lots of good TV shows
and films in the '80s. The TV programmes included the sitcom 'Hi de Hi!' which was based on a holiday camp set
in the summer of 1959, The A Team, Magnum, Knight Rider, Going Live, Saturday Superstore, Multicoloured Swapshop and many
others.
There were good films such as Flashdance, Footloose, Fame,
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Breakfast Club, St Elmo's Fire, Back to the Future, Flight of The Navigator and
lots more.
Toys and Gimmicks
There were a lot of interesting toys and gimmicks in the '80s. There was the Atari,
Spectrum and Amstrad computer game systems. There were simple arcade games like Pacman for example.
The toasted sandwich makers came into existance and many people had them in their kitchens.
Novelty stationary was big in the '80s, like a pen that resembled a crinkle-cut chip
for example.
What
I miss about the '80s is:-
Great films, music and TV programmes
Great
fashion.
